What is the difference between roof bars & roof rails?
faq

Roof rails - Run front to rear down both sides of the roof

Roof bars - Run across the roof

What is the difference between roof rails & Integrated roof rails?
faq

Roof Rails - Run front to rear down both sides of the roof and have a gap between the underside of the raised rail and the vehicles roof.

Integrated Roof Rails - Moulded profiles running front to rear down both sides of the roof which are raised slightly, but with NO GAP between the rail and the roof.

Please consult our ’Vehicle Check’ for details on what fits your particular model.

What is a roof mounted T-Track?
faq

A T-Track is a captive slotted track running down both sides of the roof, which may be concealed by a rubber insert on the top surface. On some vehicles the T-Track is not a complete track running the length of the vehicle, but consists of short sections contained within lift out pockets on the roof (e.g. Honda CRV 2002 onwards & Nissan X-Trail 2001 on).

Please consult our ’Vehicle Check’ for details on what fits your particular model.

What is a roof mounted Fixpoint?
faq

A Fixpoint is a recessed, roof mounted, fixture point on a vehicle which normally comprises of a threaded hole or metal profile. Fixpoints are generally concealed by lift up covers, slide back covers or plastic plugs.

Please consult our ’Vehicle Check’ for details on what fits your particular model.

Can I use longer than recommended Thule rapid system roof bars with Thule rapid foot packs?
faq

No, you must use the bar length listed for your model within our ’Vehicle Check’. This is because the rapid foot pack slides into a cut out section on the underside of rapid bars. This cut out section only extends inwards 195mm from the end of the bar.

Can I use longer than recommended Thule roof bars on a vehicle with raised roof rails?
faq

Generally yes, most vehicles with roof rails (not integrated or extreme diameter rails) can utilise the Thule 415 traditional foot pack. This foot pack can be used with all Thule black roof bars, but must not exceed the vehicles wing mirrors in width.

I want to buy a roof box, but will it fit my existing roof bars?
faq

All our Thule & Karrite roof boxes will fit roof bars up to 80mm in width & 35mm in depth.

Should I mount my roof box into the T-Track slot on aero roof bars?
faq

We would recommend you fasten the roof box around the bars, using the fixtures supplied, rather than into the T-Track slot

My roof bars are mounted a fixed distance apart, can I transport a roof box or bike carriers?
faq

Our roof box fixture points will adjust to suit roof bar centres 60cm to 90cm

Our roof mounted bike carriers will adjust to suit roof bar centres 50cm to 90cm

Can I be sure my tailgate will still open, with a roof box fitted?
faq

You need to check the dimensions of the roof box you’re interested in purchasing. Open the tailgate and using a tape measure, establish the overall length of the box. Compare this to the space you have available on the roof, bearing in mind that the box should ideally have an equal overhang front & rear over the roof bars.

Which roof box should I purchase?
faq

Our advice would be, buy a roof box which is in proportion to your vehicle. Check the roof box dimensions carefully against the roof space available and the luggage you wish to fit inside. If your vehicle has a tailgate, please remember to check that you will still be able to open it fully with the roof box fitted. Generally a large roof box on a small vehicle does not make good sense, as it could change the handling characteristics and make it more susceptible to cross winds.

How much weight will Thule or Rhino roof bars carry?
faq

Both Thule & Rhino roof bars are capable of transporting weights in excess of all car & van manufacturers recommended roof load capacity. Please be guided by the information provided by the manufacturer in your vehicles handbook, don’t overload!
